The LED Superstar Classic A40 by OSRAM has been distinguished with the prestigious 2014 Red Dot Award in the Product Design category. This LED lamp was developed to have a similar appearance and light spectrum to classic incandescent lamps. The LED Superstar Classic A40, with its incandescent lamp dimensions, can easily be used in conventional luminaires, and features the typical characteristics of incandescent lamps, such as a practical shape and warm white light. The LED lamp is dimmable and is available in clear or frosted versions.
OSRAM-developed optics ensure an especially high light output
One specific advantage: The in-house developed OSRAM optics enable a wide beam angle of 300 degrees, which has often been a problem in the past with LED lamps. In addition to this benefit, it has very long lifespan, low power consumption and increased resistance to shock and vibration. The lamp, manufactured in Europe, and equipped with LEDs by OSRAM Opto Semiconductors forms part of OSRAM's new LED lamp portfolio coming to the market in the fall, with 90 different types of lamp.
"This appealing new interpretation of a classic design combines the Superstar Classic A40 advanced LED lamp with outstanding benefits for users," according to the jury of the Red Dot Award in making their judgment. The Red Dot Design Award is one of the most respected design accolades in the world, and this year over 4,800 applications from 53 countries were received in an attempt to win an award.
