FAQ FOR PROFESSIONAL SMART FOR RESIDENTIAL BLUETOOTH PRODUCTS

PROFESSIONAL SMART FOR RESIDENTIAL BLUETOOTH PRODUCTS

Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard for exchanging data using the 2.4 GHz frequency band. It is natively supported by most common handheld devices including smartphones and tablets. This allows us to integrate our advanced lighting solutions of the Professional Smart for Residential Bluetooth portfolio in a compatible smart home system without the need for extra hardware like gateways or bridges.
With our Professional Smart for Residential Bluetooth portfolio we offer the possibility to use either Bluetooth Low Energy (4.0) in combination with Apple HomeKit or Bluetooth Mesh (5.0) in combination with the LEDVANCE Professional Smart for Residential app.
Bluetooth Low Energy is designed for very low power operation while maintaining a communication range similar to the standard version of Bluetooth. For the Apple HomeKit system Bluetooth Low Energy is implemented with a point-to-point network topology. This enables the creation of small-scaled smart home systems using Professional Smart for Residential Bluetooth products and direct 1-to-1 communication between your smartphone or tablet and a few Professional Smart for Residential Bluetooth products at a time.
Bluetooth Mesh is based on the Bluetooth Low Energy standard and combines the low power consumption and communication range of Bluetooth Low Energy with a many-to-many network topology. This many-to-many network topology enables large-scale communication networks in which connected Professional Smart for Residential Bluetooth products repeat the Bluetooth signal and therefore extend the network reach. Professional Smart for Residential uses the Bluetooth Mesh technology in combination with the LEDVANCE Professional Smart for Residential app.
LEDVANCE offers a broad range of Bluetooth based products. These Professional Smart for Residential Bluetooth products can either be used with an iOS based system in combination with Apple HomeKit or with an iOS or Android based system in combination with the LEDVANCE Professional Smart for Residential app. The Professional Smart for Residential Bluetooth products are easy to recognize by a Bluetooth label on the packaging or by the imprint “Works with Apple HomeKit”. No matter in which of these two ways your Professional Smart for Residential Bluetooth product is labelled, it is always possible to update the firmware of your Professional Smart for Residential Bluetooth device from Apple HomeKit (Bluetooth Low Energy) compatible firmware to LEDVANCE Professional Smart for Residential app (Bluetooth Mesh) compatible firmware or the other way around.
1.3.1. HOW CAN I SWITCH BETWEEN APPLE HOMEKIT AND LEDVANCE Professional Smart for Residential APP COMPATIBLE FIRMWARE?

As described in question 1.2 (Professional Smart for Residential BLUETOOTH PORTFOLIO) there are two different firmware versions available for Professional Smart for Residential Bluetooth products. One is for the use in Apple Home app and one for the LEDVANCE Professional Smart for Residential app. If you want to change between those two apps you need to switch the firmware as described below.
The standard delivery firmware of every Professional Smart for Residential Bluetooth product is the Apple HomeKit (Bluetooth Low Energy) firmware. Professional Smart for Residential Products which have already been set to LEDVANCE Professional Smart for Residential app compatible firmware will not appear in Apple Home app, when searching for devices.
Also be aware that it is not possible to switch between Professional Smart for Residential Bluetooth and Professional Smart for Residential Zigbee firmware.
There are two directions you can switch to:
a) Switch from Apple HomeKit compatible firmware to LEDVANCE Professional Smart for Residential app compatible firmware
1. Install the LEDVANCE Professional Smart for Residential app on your smartphone or tablet (Android 6.0 or higher / iOS 10or higher). You will need to create an account by entering an email address and selecting a password.
2. Alternatively, you can update them to Bluetooth Mesh firmware in the firmware update section of the LEDVANCE Professional Smart for Residential app.
3. For further information how to pair products see FAQ section 2 (LEDVANCE Professional Smart for Residential App).
