LEDVANCE has designed and implemented a ski slope lighting system for the ski resort in Vemdalen, Sweden, for its customer SKISTAR AB, which sets standards for users and operators alike with its outstanding lighting quality, spectacular color control and low energy consumption.

THE CHALLENGE

The SkiStar ski resort in Vemdalen, Sweden, was modernized and made more attractive by introducing a lighting system. As the ski resort previously had no lighting, the entire infrastructure - from cables to masts and luminaires - had to be installed. The new lighting had to create a dynamic and impressive ambience on the slopes, adapt flexibly to different activities and at the same time have minimal impact on the natural mountain environment. In addition, the lighting solution had to be able to withstand the harsh weather conditions and be easily controlled and managed by the employees.

THE SOLUTION

The system operator SKISTAR AB commissioned LEDVANCE to plan, implement and install a lighting solution for the ski resort. In addition to an existing customer relationship, the main reasons for this were the competitively priced offering and the wide range of effective and powerful RGB luminaires, which can also be specially adapted to the respective customer requirements. Accordingly, the experts from LEDVANCE configured 64 DMX-controlled FLOODLIGHT ARENA” floodlights for a 900-metre-long slope, which fit perfectly into the ski area on 32 masts and comprehensively improve the skiing experience for the sports enthusiasts with controllable light colours.

BENEFITS

With a luminous flux of up to 97 000 lm in the Duo version and low-flicker light, the DMX-controlled floodlights ensure optimum visibility at any time of day. Individually adjustable colors create a unique ambience - and thanks to the minimized light pollution, the local wildlife is not disturbed either. The highly efficient LED technology of the floodlight luminaires also reduces power consumption and enables a rapid ROI with low energy costs. With a temperature tolerance of up to -25°C, the LED luminaires can also withstand the external demands of harsh Nordic winters and impress with a rated service life of up to 120 000 hours (L80/B10 @ 15°C) with low maintenance requirements. In addition, the lighting strengthens Vemdalen's position as an innovative ski resort, attracts additional guests thanks to the extended opening hours and promotes the representation of the ski resort in the social media through pictures of the lighting effects posted by visitors.
